In The Studio CIC is a not-for-profit arts organisation delivering the public programme at Amici Studio in Hastings. Through outreach events, learning and artist development, we create opportunities for people to experience, explore and take part in contemporary art – bringing artists and communities together across Hastings and East Sussex.

About Us
In The Studio CIC delivers artist development, community and participatory programmes at Amici Studio, based 12 Claremont: A Creative Community in the centre of Hastings.
We create opportunities for artists to develop their practice, build confidence and connect with other practitioners. We also develop projects that invite local people to participate in arts and culture, engage with artists and become part of the creative life of the town.
Our work sits alongside Amici Studio’s exhibition programme, creating further opportunities for artists, audiences and communities to use and experience the space. We collaborate with our neighbours at 12 Claremont, including the neurodiverse arts charity Project Art Works, to develop the building as a welcoming cultural hub. Through our close relationship with Amici Studio, we also build connections with artists and creative organisations across Hastings, St Leonards and the wider East Sussex coast.
Artist Professional Development
We support artists at every stage of their practice, from those beginning to exhibit or returning to making, to established practitioners preparing for significant opportunities.
Our current programme includes regular Crit Club, One-to-One Studio Visits and a bespoke four-session Artist Development Programme. Together, these provide access to constructive feedback, mentoring, peer support and practical professional guidance.
Creative Participation
We create welcoming opportunities for people to experience and participate in arts and culture. Through workshops, events and collaborative projects, we encourage creativity, build connections and make artistic activity more accessible.
Experimentation and New Work
We give artists opportunities to test ideas, take creative risks and engage with audiences while developing new work. Our In Progress series, allows artists to use Amici Studio as a site of experimentation and invites the public to encounter and contribute to the creative process.
Partnership and Community
We work with artists, local communities, cultural organisations and our neighbours at 12 Claremont to develop projects, share knowledge and create new opportunities for participation.

Our Mission
At In The Studio CIC, we believe that everyone should have meaningful opportunities to experience, participate in and contribute to arts and culture. We also believe that artists need space, support and strong professional networks in order to develop ambitious and sustainable practices.
Our mission is to support artists, widen public participation and strengthen the creative ecology of Hastings, St Leonards and the wider East Sussex coast. We do this through artist development, workshops, events, collaborative projects and opportunities that bring artists and communities together.
Collaboration is central to our approach. We work alongside artists, local residents, cultural organisations and community partners, sharing knowledge, resources and opportunities wherever possible. By cooperating with organisations that hold similar values, we can support one another’s work, reach more people and contribute to a stronger and better-connected cultural community.
We recognise that artists, participants and partner organisations all bring valuable experience, ideas and perspectives. Our programmes are designed to encourage exchange, experimentation and shared learning, creating an environment in which people and organisations can develop together.
Through our work, we aim to make artistic practice more open and accessible, reduce isolation among artists and participants, and create lasting connections between people, organisations and communities. By investing in creativity, cooperation and participation, we want to help build a more connected, confident and culturally vibrant place.
